Body piercing: Aftercare

Handling your body piercing at the beginning is the same as taking care of a minor wound. It's crucial to take excellent care of your piercing, particularly while the fistula hasn't developed yet.

Body piercing: After care

Don't wear tight or unclean garments on your new piercing. Your hands should be cleansed before handling the piercing; after all, hands contain a lot of microorganisms.

 Body piercing: Aftercare

Don'ts

* Don't take the jewelry out during the healing time. The wound will heal better and won't shut as rapidly when you remove the jewelry for a short period.

* Don't use any ointments on the piercing. It's preferable to keep the piercing as dry as possible. Using creams will keep the oxygen out and will decrease the rate of healing.

* Avoid make-up, shaving cream, harsh soap, or fragrant items near your piercing.

* Don't hang charms from your jewelry until the wound is totally healed

.

* Avoid resting on the piercing while healing.

* Don't over-clean. Cleaning the piercing wound more than twice a day is not suggested, it will slow down the healing.

* Don't put band-aids on your piercing. There will not be adequate air circulation and the glue might create discomfort.

* Avoid swimming pools, jacuzzis (the warm air above the water surface retains a lot of germs), and lakes,... If there is marine life, car oil, or children in the water, then it is not clean enough!

Whether you are going in the water, and you question if the water is clean enough, then you may place a non-water-permeable wound sealer on the piercing before going in.

It will prevent unclean water from entering the wound. Cleaning the wound afterward will not be beneficial in avoiding any infection!

* Avoid oral contact with bodily fluids that are not your own! Your own bodily fluids like perspiration are not dangerous for your piercing, but you do have to clean it.

Do's

* Wash your hands before any touch with the healing piercing!

* Wear clean and breathable textiles around the location of your new piercing. Don't wear tight clothes around the piercing.

* Make your bed clean at all times.

* Leave the beginning jewelry in for at least the minimum healing time.

* A healthy lifestyle can help your piercing recover quicker. Staying away from drugs and alcohol, eating healthy meals, and avoiding stress will reveal their benefits.

 * You should have a shower in place of a bath. A bathtub tends to have loads of germs.

If you insist on bathing, clean the tub with a bleaching agent each time before bathing, and rinse it with water. When you finish the bath, you can rinse your piercing with water.

Cleaning solution for body piercing area

Mild saltwater soaks are advised (daily), they offer the finest effects for expediting your recovery and boosting your comfort.

You should dissolve an amount equal to 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in a cup (8 oz.) containing warm water. Surely, the cup must be clean. Don't make the solution any stronger since too much salt might get the piercing to burn.

Invert the cup over the region and soak directly for a few minutes. You may also use a cotton ball soaked in salt water in replace of the direct soaking when the piercing is in a tough spot.

Cleaning instructions after body piercing

Clean your piercing twice a day throughout the early healing phase. Don't clean it too much, it will create inflammation. Stay away from your piercing for the remainder of the day.

You must wash your hands using antibacterial soap and hot water before you start the cleaning.

First, you have to clean the region of the piercing with warm water to make sure the crusts that have developed are eliminated. Otherwise, they may go into the piercing and the piercing can become infected.

Wash the area and the jewelry using the cleaning solution. Carefully slide the piercing jewelry up and down to get the cleaning solution inside the piercing. Let the solution do its thing for a minute.

You may wash normally, but don't get any more things than the cleaning solution into your piercing on purpose.

Wash the piercing area adequately with running water. You should remove all of the cleaning solutions.

Pull the piercing jewelry back and forth very carefully while washing so that the solution from within the piercing is also eliminated.

Dry the area using tissues or gauze. Avoid cloth towels, they might retain germs.

What's normal after body piercing?

Bleeding, bruising, and swelling is typical, but they don't hint at an infection.

Tenderness and pain are not uncommon in the first few weeks. You might experience burning, stinging, or hurting during the first days on and off. Itching is also extremely prevalent.

The discharge of a fairly liquid, whitish-yellow fluid creates crusts at the holes of the piercing. This is not pus. It includes blood plasma, lymph, and dead cells. It's perfectly natural and signifies the healing process.

Keep the body piercing clean

If you detect anything weird, or the piercing becomes significantly infected, call the piercer or a doctor.

If your piercing secretes pus, you need immediately visit a doctor for antibiotic therapy. The puncture should be remained at all times to ensure the drainage of pus.

If the jewelry is removed, the piercing might seal and you can have an abscess... Leave your jewelry in!!!

Healing time after body piercing

Ear lobe and eyebrow take 6-8 weeks to heal. While ear cartilage and belly button take about 4 months - 1 year for healing. Your nostril will heal within 2-4 months.
